Nuclear weapons were one of most important technological inventions of the 20st Century, and central to the super power conflict of the Cold War. Cold War nuclear strategy and arsenals continue to dominate popular imagination of these weapons, and the way the United States and its allies think about nuclear strategy. However, the purpose and technological sophistication of many other nuclear arsenals, especially of countries in Asia, are very different from those of the Soviet Union and United States. In this presentation, we will discuss what lessons we can draw from the past 60 years of nuclear strategy for nuclear strategy in the Asia-Pacific of the 21stCentury.
