Abstract:

The ability to store highly charged ions for long periods of time opens up novel experimental possibilities. The focus here is on what can be done with nuclear isomers in the experimental storage ring at GSI, to learn about nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics and the atomic/nuclear interface. The talk will illustrate the basic experimental techniques and the features that can be observed. New results for 212Bi will be presented.
