Masters of Philosophy in Physics (MPhil)

The Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering offers a research based Masters of Philosophy degree program across all of its current research areas. The MPhil can be undertaken as a stand alone qualification or as a recognized pathway to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Masters of Philosophy degrees are usually 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time in duration. Candidates generally undertake their research studies at the School however external candidature in conjunction with an approved organization may be considered. A major thesis is the sole form of assessment for this award.

Potential candidates must have completed a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with at least upper second class Honours or equivalent and demonstrate the capacity to undertake independent research.

The minimum qualification requirement for admission to a program for a Master of Philosophy is:

    (a) a degree of bachelor, with an overall grade of distinction or higher, from an Australian university; or

    (b) another qualification that the Delegated Authority is satisfied is equivalent or superior to a degree mentioned in paragraph (a); or

    (c) a combination of qualifications and professional experience that the Delegated Authority is satisfied is equivalent or superior to a degree mentioned in paragraph (a)
