Research interests
Kate's primary research interest is the development of new hardware and protocols for quantum information processing. In particular, the development of solid-state quantum technologies based upon the remarkable optical properties of rare earth ions in crystals.
Kate's main focus is on the generation and distribution of quantum entanglement, which will allow provably secure communication via quantum encryption. Her current research pursues:
- Development of quantum light sources and quantum memories
- Protocol development for quantum communication
