Plasma Research Laboratory
The Plasma Research Laboratory undertakes research into the physics of plasmas, fluids, waves and instabilities.
It is home to the H-1 Australian Plasma Fusion Research Facility, which is the national focus of high temperature experimental plasma fusion research for clean energy generation. Associated research activities include the study of 3D magnetic confinement systems, plasma-surface interactions (with an emphasis on the fusion plasma boundary) and the development of advanced remote sensing systems.
The primary research themes in the department are
- Experimental plasma science
- Theory and modelling: plasmas, fusion plasmas
- Physics of fluids
- Wireless broadband communications
Division of Space Plasma Power and Propulsion (SP3)
SP3 undertakes research into low temperature plasmas and their applications. Topics include: PIC simulations and plasma modelling, plasma processing of surfaces, atmospheric pressure plasmas, fuel cells and space plasma thrusters.
