Weakly Guiding Nonlinear Waves

The fundamental equations governing nonlinear waves can be borrowed directly from the literature of linear optical waveguides. In particular, this literature elegantly derives the usual scalar type approximations, plus their first order corrections, and exhaustively considers the consequences of using them instead of Maxwell's equations. To our knowledge, this has not been adequately addressed in the literature of nonlinear waves.
