Professor Volodymyr I. Chegel
Laboratory of Molecular Plasmonics; Functional Optoelectronics Department
V.E.Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics National Academy of Sciences, Kyiv, Ukraine

The sensing of any type of molecules and registration of interactions between them in the vicinity of excited by light plasmonic (Au, Ag etc.) materials represents an novel interdisciplinary research field, based on photonics, chemistry and biology (i.e. molecular plasmonics). Rapidly growing interest in molecular plasmonics lies in its potential applications for highly miniaturized and sensitive photonic devices by controlling, manipulating and amplifying light on the nanoscale materials / bionanostructures. Furthermore, our rapidly improving understanding of the interactions between adsorbed molecules and plasmonic nanostructures is having a significant impact on a broad spectrum of other applications such as materials study, metamaterials, surface enhanced spectroscopies (SEIRA, SEF, SERS). The developed theoretical approaches allow the calculation the local electromagnetic field in vicinity of the high-conductive metal nanostructures and, respectively, the value of sensor’s signals, emission enhancement of fluorophores etc.

In current presentation will be highlighted the own research findings using Surface Plasmon Polariton Resonance and Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance methods that relate to study of different type of molecules, their interactions and response on external factors of influence. The present state of manufacturing of plasmonic nanomaterials and nanochips as well as plasmonic based devices will be discussed.
