Trapped ions are one of the most promising platforms for quantum computing due to their long coherence times and demonstrated precise control. Recently, significant progress has been made towards developing useful trapped ion quantum computing platforms. However challenge remains for creating a platform with sufficient numbers to qubits and fast high-fidelity gate operations. Fast entangling gates utilising ultra fast pulses are a promising development offering arbitrarily fast gate times and High fidelities for sufficient laser powers.
In this presentation, I discuss the optimisation of pulse schemes to produce high fidelity gates and I show how these gates can be used in scalable architectures.
