Departmental Seminar

Adaptive sensing with single spins

Dr Liam McGuinness
Laser Physics Centre, ANU

Quantum sensors measure the response of quantum phase to a signal in order to operate at the limits of sensitivity, resolution and non-invasiveness. By applying appropriate control to the sensor, the phase response can be increased, however the optimal control depends particularly on the signal to be measured. As a result, performance can be improved by adaptively changing the sensing sequence as more information about the signal is acquired. This talk gives an overview of adaptive measurements for quantum sensing, and discusses the limitations, challenges and benefits of performing adaptive measurements, with a focus on single spins in diamond.
