Theoretical Physics

The past twelve months has seen the establishment of a strong, in-house theoretical activity, in collaboration with a number of other Groups. Projects presently underway are relativistic calculations of electron impact (e,2e) ionisation using the distorted wave Born Approximation and relativistic elastic scattering calculations. Further research activities include single and double ionisation of atomic systems by charged-particle impact and Synchrotron radiation. Geometrical and dynamical circular dichroisms in the production of chiral, continuum electron pairs are investigated. Mathematical and physical properties of few-body Coulomb continuum systems are also the subject of current research together with the developments of inverse scattering techniques for the analysis of experimental scattering data and the extraction of scattering potentials.
