Centre For Learning and Teaching in the Physical Sciences

The Research School of Physics and Engineering is one of the largest concentrations of physics based research in Australia and boasts an international reputation for exceptional physics and engineering research and discovery. The School's innovative research culture, strong industry focus, supportive intellectual environment, world class facilities and enthusiastic experienced staff all combine to ensure a world class physics learning and teaching environment.

A degree in Physics can lead to many different careers - ranging from high technology companies to international research and advisory positions in the public and private sector. Our undergraduate degrees Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physics or our innovative research-focused Bachelor of Philosophy (honours) (PhB) all open doors to careers or postgraduate research degrees both in Australia and around the world. Students can directly access and participate in our school's research through special research courses run at third year level. Fourth year honours research projects can be carried out in any research group in the ANU.

The Research School of Physics and Engineering offers graduate research programs leading to the degrees of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). These research based degrees afford candidates the opportunity to conduct original research which will contribute to the existing body of knowledge within their chosen field.

Also available within the school is the coursework based Master of Nuclear Science and Master of Photonics degrees. Physics subjects designed for secondary science teachers are offered within the Master of Contemporary Science degree
