ARC Centre of Excellence for Anti-Matter Matter Studies Honours Scholarships

The Centre for Antimatter-Matter Studies (CAMS) is a collaboration of Australian universities and research institutions to study the interactions of electrons and positrons with different types of matter, from single atoms to biological molecules, surfaces and materials. The wide ranging research program brings together some of Australia's top scientists from a broad range of disciplines.
The CAMS ANU node offers Honours projects to complement the ongoing research activities being undertaken in the Centre. The aim of the RSPHYSE Honours Scholarship is to encourage outstanding undergraduate students to continue into research degrees and careers.
These Scholarships are available to third year undergraduate students who are completing, or about to complete, an undergraduate degree in a related discipline and who intend to enrol in the Physics Honours Program at the Australian National University.
RSPHYSE Honours Scholarships are valued at $5,000 with a further $4,500 available for relocation and travel costs for students who are transferring to the University (conditions apply).
Requirements: These Scholarships are available to third year undergraduate students who are completing, or about to complete, an undergraduate degree in a related discipline and who intend to enrol in the Physics Honours Program at the Australian National University. Selection is based solely on the basis of academic merit. |

ANU Honours Year Scholarships

The University offers up to 15 ANU Honours Year scholarships each year. In 2008 each scholarship will be worth $5,000.
Subject to the approval of the University Awards Committee an ANU Honours Year Scholarship may be held concurrently with other scholarships and awards. It is advisable that you contact Centrelink to establish if an ANU Honours Scholarship can be held without affecting your Youth Allowance or other benefit.
Requirements: You should be intending to enrol full-time at this University in the Honours Year of a program of study leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor with Honours OR in the final year of a program of study leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor with Honours where the honours component is an integral part of the final year.
It is essential that you contact the Faculty or School where you are proposing to undertake Honours to establish that you have or will have the academic qualifications for entry into Honours and that the required resources will be available to you.
It is acknowledged that at this stage your acceptance into Honours may not yet be finalised. You do not need to wait for results before lodging an application. If you lodge an application and later become ineligible for Honours your application will be disregarded.
With the approval of the relevant Faculty or School, you may commence the Honours Program in either first or second semester.

DSTO-AIP Scholarship Scheme Honours Scholarship

DSTO and the AIP have established the DSTO-AIP Scholarship Scheme to celebrate the Einstein International Year of Physics 2005 in Australia. The purpose of the Scheme is to provide two scholarships to the value $15,000 each to two suitably qualified candidates. DSTO will provide the funding for the Scheme and AIP will administer the Scheme. More details here

Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering Top Up Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to attract talented Australian and New Zealand students of high calibre to pursue postgraduate research within the Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering. The scholarship provides for payment of a supplementary stipend to an outstanding holder of an APA or similar stipend scholarship for the duration of that scholarship.
The maximum duration of this scholarhsip is three years full-time, with a possible six month extension.
Requirements: Candidates who have completed a four year undergraduate degree or equivalent at H1 level and who wish to undertake a PhD at the School, are eligible. Australian Citizens permanent resident, or a New Zealand Citizen. |
As this scholarship is awarded to an outstanding applicant for an APA or ANU PhD or similar stipend scholarship, it is not necessary to complete a separate application form. |

ANU PhD Mid-Year Entry Scholarships

A small number of ANU PhD Scholarships which provide a stipend are funded by Colleges which may be available through mid-year entry or at other times of the year. It is normal for recipients to undertake study on a full-time basis. However, in accordance with strict criteria, the scholarship may be awarded for part-time study. International scholars must undertake study on a full-time basis. It is expected that the scholarship normally will be taken up by 31 August in the year for which it is awarded, although, subject to the approval of the prospective supervisor, Head of Department and Dean/Director, a later start date may be possible. The date by which a scholarship must be taken up in a particular instance will be made clear in the formal letter of offer for the scholarship.
Scholarships are available for mid-year entry or at other times of the year; three years full-time with a possible six month extension; available to Australian and New Zealand citizens, and permanent residents of Australia. American Association Of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowships

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Educational Foundation is the largest private supporter of graduate women. Established in 1881, the Association has a long and illustrious history of helping women achieve their personal and professional goals. Australian Development Scholarships

The Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) are available to many countries under agreements for development assistance from Australia. The scholarship numbers and fields of study for each country are determined annually in close consultation with partner governments. ADS are offered in two categories: Public and Open/Equity. The government or employer in a partner country nominates candidates for scholarships in the public category. Individuals may independently apply for a scholarship in the open/equity category, subject to any country-specific selection and eligibility criteria.
Eligible Programs include PhD, Professional Doctorate by Research, MPhil and postgraduate coursework. Some undergraduate programs may be approved under home country priority areas. Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (EIPRS)

The Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (EIPRS) are available for study leading to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy and are funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Because competition for the scholarships is intense, at ANU they are not awarded for study at the Master degree level. Successful applicants will study in areas in which the University has shown a particular research concentration.

Fulbright Awards

Lionel Murphy Australian Postgraduate Scholarships

A number of Australian and overseas postgraduate scholarships are awarded annually by the Trustees of the Lionel Murphy Foundation. These scholarships are known as the Lionel Murphy Australian Postgraduate Scholarships, or the Lionel Murphy Overseas Postgraduate Scholarships, as the case may be. The precise number in each category, and the method of payment, is determined by the Trustees in their absolute discretion.

Inaugurated in 1967 by prominent Australian alumni of Harvard to honour the Australian statesman and former prime minister, the Menzies Scholarship grants one annual award to a talented Australian who has gained admission to a Harvard graduate school. In accordance with its national origin and focus, the ideal candidates for the Scholarship are Australians whose primary objective, after completing their studies at Harvard, is to make a significant contribution to this country’s development.
Eligible Programs include PhD, MPhil.

Re-entry scholarships for Graduate Research

The University offers each year a small number (usually only one) of Re-entry Scholarships for graduates who wish to resume academic studies after a break of at least three years since formal enrolment in a university program, the break normally being due to fulfillment of family obligations.
Eligible programs include PhD, Professional Doctorate by Research, MPhil. Maximum duration for PhD or Professional Doctorate three years with a possible six-month extension; for MPhil one year with a possible extension of up to a further twelve months.
Requirements: Bachelors degree with at least upper second-class honours, or a Masters degree with a research component or equivalent; Australian and New Zealand citizens; Permanent residents of Australia. |

Rhodes Scholarships

The Rhodes Trust offers eleven Rhodes Scholarships in Australia each year, one for each State and five for Australia at Large. A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable at the University of Oxford. All fees are paid by the Trust directly to the College. In addition, a Rhodes Scholar receives a personal stipend and assistance with travelling expenses to the United Kingdom.
Requirements: Applicants must be Australian citizens and have passed their eighteenth and not reached their twenty-fifth birthday by 1 October. |

University House Postgraduate Research Scholarships

The University House funds a small number (up to two) of scholarships for Doctor of Philosophy or Professional Doctorate by research.
Eligible Programs include PhD, Professional Doctorate by Research. Maximum duration is three years full-time, with a possible six month extension. Other benefits include travel to Canberra from within Australia; reimbursement of some removal expenses; thesis reimbursement allowance.
